We all know that reading to our children is fun and a great way to spend time together, but did you know....

n

n    The President of the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends“daily reading to children from six months of age.”

n    Statistics show that when children have heard 1000 stories, only then will they want to learn to read. That’s just 3 stories a day for a year or 1 story a day for 3.
n    Children who have not developed some basic literacy skills bythe time they enter school are 3-4 times more likely to drop out inlater years Dept. of Education
n    74% of children who are poor readers in 3rd grade are poor readersin 9th grade.

n    85% of children in the juvenile court system cannot read.

By spending a few minutes a day engaged in literacy based activities, parents can instill a love of books and learning as well as create a time for bonding with their children.
